Is google an ISP as well in the US?

Because i can see in my website logs that somebody behind a google ip address (New York) regulary visits and reads certain pages in my website. Before you say that it is normal and is just google spidering my site i must make it clear that my site is 1 week old and hasn't yet been indexed by google.com. I found articles from 2005 on the net which read that google wanted to become an ISP in the US.

Is google an ISP as well in the US?
Google operates a WiFi network in Mountain View (California) and is getting ready to launch one in San Francisco, however, New York isn't on the list...at least not yet. If it wasn't a Google spider then it could have been a Google employee or contractor.

BTW, just because your site isn't yet indexed doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't a spider. Crawling happens way before results show up on Google Search.

Reply:Google is not an ISP (Internet Service Provider.) Google is a search engine, and has news, maps, Google Earth with pictures, etc. Google on its own can't make regular visits and read pages on your website, but somebody using Google can.

I've been trying to "SEO" my blog since 4 months. I have quite a lot of backlinks but google doesn't show them. Google's sitemap tool shows all (most) of them. Earlier the google toolbar showed "No pagerank information avilable" but Yesterday (9th august) it showed PR 0 (Page rank 0), when I check for backlinks of my blog in google, it only shows my blog and the blog where my blog domain was earlier. The funny thing is this old domain has only one page and it says "We've moved to a new address" and it also shows a PR 0, so what's the difference between my heavily loaded blog and that blog of one paragraph? I have quality backlinks (one from wikipedia's PR 5 page) (but google shows none of them) WHEN THE HELL WILL GOOGLE GIVE ME A NICE PR??

Okay, wow. Lots to answer here. :-)

1) Google.com doesn't show all the links that it knows about to your site. In order to see a more complete list of inbound links that Google knows about, you'll need to sign up with Webmaster Central (www.google.com/webmasters), and even then, they don't show every link they know of.

2) The link you have from Wikipedia is no-followed, so it won't be passing you any "link juice." It's still a nice link to have for traffic purposes, though.

3) PR isn't something you should worry about. It has nothing to do with how highly your pages/blog will appear in the SERPs. PageRank today is used mainly as a determining factor for how often and how deeply a page/site gets crawled.

For a blog, the metrics you should be focused on are

- daily traffic

- feed/RSS subscribers

- amount of comments

As those things grow over time, your PR will follow. But really, with a blog, it's all about feed subscribers, comments, and traffic.

How new are the satellite photos from google earth and google maps and how often does each one refresh. If i stand outside with a sign for a month will i be on google earth?

Reply:They refresh every so often. Companies such as news organizations pay subscriptions to Google Earth and I believe they use updated images for Google Maps.
Reply:Odds are you will not be on Google Earth/Map, only after a month. Maybe after a year or two you would. It is still very costly to do aerial photographing.

I had notice on Google Earth, no work has been done on the ROM, in Toronto. Even it work has started more then three years ago on the addition.

About Google Adwords match options?

I has just opened an Google Adwords account for my business. However, I am struggling in the match options Google provided - exact match, phrase match, broad match. I clearly understand the meaning of all these terms, but I wonder why it is needed to bid on exact wording in exact match or phrase match if broad match can show perfectly and the bid price is the same (which Google suggests).

Also, if I have 3 exact wording of keywords in exact, phrase and broad match and with same bid price,

1. [memory stick] ** 0.05

2. "memory stick" ** 0.05

3. memory stick **0.05

if a user types in (sony memory stick) in Google search, then which ad, the second phrase match or third broad match will show up?

How about if the bid price is not the same, let's say,

3. memory stick **0.3

If a user types in (memory stick), which ad will show up?

Sorry, I know this is a stupid question but I have to ask it. When I type www.google.com, it appears in Google Gujrati. I clicked on the Google English tab and it will never revert. Every time I type google, it appears in the Gujrati version. My father-in-law somehow put it in Gujrati but he doesn't know to reverse the effects either. It's annoying. Any help would be appreciated

Where did Google's Traffic Estimator go?

Currently trying to get keyword stats and found that Google's Traffic Estimator Sandbox has a login preceding use of the tool.

Anyone know if this is an intentional move by Google? I wouldn't be surprised... now they can link all search term research to Google adwords buyers!

Ideas/thoughts... am I becoming too paranoid of Google's unyielding (desire for total) power?

You can create a new Google account different from your Adwords account. I have a different account for accessing Google Webmaster Tools, a different one for Adwords and a different one for Blogger, and a different one for Adsense.

If I have multiple IDs signed up from previous revisions shouldnt there be a page that allows me to authenticate All Google Accounts I have, then be able delete the redundant accounts, and be able to select The services this ID will work with are: webmaster tools, adsense, analytics...

Well Google does allow the user to keep track of their tools and allows easy transition between them. If you sign in on the search page, you should notice a link in the upper left that reads "My Account" which from there you can see all the tools you are subscribed too including analytics etc.

Now if you are referring to application IDs or API keys, those are always going to be different because they are separate applications, may have different key requirements, and were implemented at different times. I do know that Google is attempting to slowly consolidate several of their applications together and later will form bigger packages (like an online suite).

Perhaps you can ask in the Google newsgroups for further information about their intentions.

A few weeks ago, someone told me about a new service Google is starting. They said that Google plans to offer a new credit card processing service. So, instead of using your bank to process your customers' credit cards, you would use Google's service instead. Supposedly you will also earn credit for Adwords by using this service. Yes. It's called Google checkout and it launched in June of this year. Here's a link to the info on it. It is basically Google's version of PayPal. It's cheaper than PayPal and even cheaper than most merchant accounts. It even processes American Express at .20 per transaction + 2% vs the 5% plus transaction fee that American Epress typically charges.

Can't access Google?

I am having trouble accessing google services (google.com, google talk, google map). Whenever I tries to go google.com, I get message such as "The address is invalid" or "Unable to connect." I've tried to check the other computers that are connect to the same network and they don't seem to have a problem....

I've tried both IE and Firefox. Neither worked. Also checked on privacy setting....

Is it possible that my computer is infected with some bug? Or Google is blocking me?

Most likely causes:

There might be a typing error in the address.

If you clicked on a link, it may be out of date.

-Check the address for typing errors such as

-If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.

-If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Can Google ranking be bought?

This came up from a conversation with a friend.

He was very certain that any one website owner can pay to have their website rank higher in Google. I am not talking about Google AdWords on the right hand side, or the highlighted sponsored links on the top of the page.

I need clarification on this. As I always thought that Google ranking is based on many other factors, such as site content, quality of links, length of stay for each click, etc. but not for how much the website owner has paid Google.

Can Google ranking be bought?
No, as answered by my other friends. By buying links i.e. paid links and paid listing i.e. paying for listing in directories and search engines or by paying google, Google ranking cannot be bought. There are websites that lose their PR and web pages are remove from google cache due to various reasons like if the web page was not updated for very long time or due to some black hat techniques.

I mean to say, that if a web page drops out from the google cache then to regain cache,so that web pages gets indexed by google, website owners pay to google for paid listing and regains indexing. These listing are not organic listing and they appear above organic listing as paid listing.

Again, to say till now I have not come across buying Google ranking, and if this was the case many could have invested to gain top ranking and remain in the top 10 listing. Google is the most preferred and trusted for its search result and web strongest power to take IT business to heights and attain globalization.

I signed up for google ad sense and got approved. After submitting my checking account. I notice they now require your SS#. I thought they said if you make over $500 then you would need a social security number unless I getting this confused with google base. I leery of getting anybody my social security number. The checking account I used online is not tied to any other accounts. Is google consider ad sense consider self-employment? if so I don’t think it would be worth it becuase of taxes you would have to pay. How do I close just my google ad sense account? Sorry if wrong category.

Google will report to Uncle Sam your earnings from Adsense. They will issue you a W2 at the end of year, which means that IRS also has a copy of that.

You don't need to close it - just don't put the code in your website and don't earn from it.

We've been with the program since June 2003, giving them our EIN. And we earn 5 digits a month from Adsense -- so yes, it is SO WORTH it for us. We pay huge taxes, but that's ok because we are earning big from the program.

With Adsense, you don't even need a huge traffic to make big money from the program. As long as your site fits well with Adsense -- visitors looking for ways to spend money, users responsive to ads, great topic with high paying keywords -- you can make a good chunk even if you don't have huge traffic. But of course, more traffic means more income.

But it's your personal choice. I can understand your apprehension in giving our your SS#. One way to get around this is to get an EIN number from the IRS so you don't have to give out your SS#.

Reply:Really only if your site has a lot of traffic. If not the liklihood that the sponser links will get clicked is minimum. So I would judge based on that.

Fullscreen(Google Vids)?

I can't get fullscreen to work with Google videos. I copied what follows from another help forum to save time. So forgive if it's not all coherent.

I even downloaded the google player but didn't seem to make any difference. I tried looking for settings but don't seem to be able to locate any for this aspect.

Youtube seems to work fine. Just Google VIDs don't seem too . I think it's something to do with the flash player and how it's assoiating with Google?

When I try researching their site(Adobe/flashplayer.) The only thing I see on the topic is involving the code(scripting true/false.) Was over my head.

I manly use AOL. I tried with IE(Internet Explorer) before with no luck. I tried using IE again and I did get an error report, it read as follows...

To google wack is to find two words that only 1 (one) webpage results.

I was trying to fix up my phone plan online and I typed into google "who/mytime" and it came up with only one result

I tried "googlewhacking", and I did come up with small numbers of search results (which for some reason made google get all confused, "showing 2-1 of about 3 results" or the like) but couldn't get any real sites to pop up. However, there are rules to the game ... so I never ended up getting my own googlewhack ... :(

i keep hearing a lot of buz about how "great Google is" and about how "Google has revolutionized the web" i thought it was just another search engine like yahoo but today i decided to go and make a google account (because i have never used google)

so, now what do i do so that i can see this "revolutionized web" that google has created. i made a gmail account, and went to google docs, pixasa, and google calendar (that syncs with microsoft office) but its not something i will use all the time. what else is there?

google finance, maps, trends, products, gchat... check out their labs. I personally use the maps for directions more often than other services.
Reply:I prefer Yahoo! But, I'll tell you one great thing about it... they have a new service on their maps section ( http://www.maps.google.com ) that allows you to actually see a 360 degree eye level view of your destination address. I thought that was pretty wicked. Try it out. Everything else they offer is pretty much stationary i think.
Reply:For starters, Google was the first search engine with results that were good, vs simply counting the number of times a specific word appeared on a webpage (which was easy for spammers to abuse).

Google maps is very innovative, nobody else was providing good map data on the net, and the few who were, had very clunky interfaces. Google invented the whole "draggable map in a webpage" that Windows apps have been using for years.

Gmail is good, but you won't realize it at first. I wasn't very impressed either but after awhile, it's automatic spam blocking is great and the fact it organizes replies into conversations makes it easy to keep your mail organized.

I don't use google's other services, although I do add their toolbar to IE and Firefox because I prefer adding my favorites to Google bookmarks, that way I can access them at home, work, friend's house and don't need to worry about a PC crash or whatever.

It 's very hard to find them because it's considered confidential by Google. I recently set up a google keywords account to advertise my website in thier sponsored listing section. My google account says i have had 4217 visitors today but my web counter and webstats on my server account say I have had a little over 3000 visitors today of which just over 2000 come from google. Google are billing me £347.10 for 4217 clicks. Has only had a similar experaince or can anyone explain why there should be such a differance between what google say and what my server says?

Reply:Don't use it!! Google keywords or adwords takes your listing out of main listings so you have to keep on paying - will take a long time for your site to climb the ratings again! (and, lets be honest - how many people actually take notice of the sponsered listings to the right?)
Reply:Yes I have experienced this before. Are you sure you have the scripts that are logging the transactions on your server side in the right place? For example if someone hits your site and leaves immediately, is it recorded?

It's the obvious route to a discrepancy I can think of.

As far a webs and popups and your server vs. google. It is like trying to count apples and oranges. your server is correct as to the reality of hits. Google is on the 'phone company of ethics' when the page is hit anywhere, it counts not only for you, but every other sucker who uses it on the page. everyone gets charged....it sucks!

bottom line, cut your losses and get out and go somewhere else...and tell everyone you know and get the word out.

I have a problem with google and would be grateful if anybody could help. A couple of years back somebody in our family died and i filled in this rememberance page on this website. But now if i type my name in google this comes up all of the time, nobody else knows about this and i am scared of a family member coming accross it on the internet. I asked the website owners if they could delete my entry and they did without any trouble. I am not being disrespectful to the person this is about but i would prefer it if it didnt come up on google search. Does anybody know how i can remove it or stop it coming up on google search, if you do please let me know.

Google caches websites so they load more quickly and you can view the cached version of the webpage when the snapshot of it was taken. You just need to wait for Google to clear that cache out. I'm not sure how long it will take.

For example, according to their policy, if you try to place an ad that said "Boycott McDonalds! America is already too obese!", then Google would decline to place that ad as well, if McDonalds had requested such action. *Any* trademark can be prohibited by the holder of the trademark.

On the other hand, if you wanted to place an ad that says "Boycott Fast Food restaurants! America is already too obese!", then Google wouldn't have a problem.

What if this controversy had first emerged because some other politician wanted to complain about the NRA, and the NRA had requested the same ban? Would you react the same?

When using the google api to geocode, it fails on county road

addresses. But the maps.google.com site finds them every time.

For example;

When I pass the address '10910 E County Road 400 S, Selma, IN 47383'

to the API it can't find it. But maps.google.com page can. (http://

I am an Adwords advertiser and recently I have been comparing my page views (how many times a visitors sees a page) to the number of clicks Google has been charging me. On November 25th, my Web site had 308 page views, but Google charged me for 705 clicks.

In any other business, that would be called fraud. Part of me wonders if Google is doing this to other Adword advertisers and that is how they are “jacking up” their revenues, thus increasing their stock price that hasn’t been seen since the “Dot.com” bubble burst in the late 1990’s.

My question is, has any one else experienced this problem and is there any legal action against Google I can take not only to help me but also other unsuspecting Adword advertisers maybe being taken advantage of without their knowledge?

Because I am an attorney, I have to say: I am not your attorney. I do not represent you. If you feel you have a valid claim, you should immediately consult an attorney in person. I am not advising you one way or another to do anything.

Below is what I would do assuming that this happened to me in the state where I live (so I am familiar with the law and the court rules). However, I am an attorney, so I am comfortable with doing this kind of thing. Since you are not, you should probably put the "consult an attorney" part first.

First, I would be very cautious proceeding against Google. They can afford a lot of attorneys.

Second, I would be very cautious about the facts. Computers are complex and either side may be miscounting, or counting something different, or counting for a different period of time. (For example, does their 24-hour day differ from mine because we are in different time zones?)

So, as a first step, I think I would raise the issue with their help desk. I would take a deep breath before I call and remain calm throughout. I would not show them my cards -- I would act like I am concerned, but not angry. The point of the call is to get more information from them, not to blast them. I would remember that they may be recording it, and I don't want to look like an idiot to the judge.

I would make sure to write down the name of the person I talk to and try to get a phone number or email address I can use to contact them directly. In any case, I would make sure that I get whatever internal ticket number they use to track my call.

I would then explain the situation to them -- they there is a discrepancy between my numbers and theirs, and that I would like to try to track down the source of the discrepancy. (I would avoid saying, "So I can sue your butt.") I would be listening and taking careful notes on the technical description that they give me. I would not argue with them, especially if I know that they are dead wrong. I am trying to get evidence, not start a fight.

After the call is the time to think about and critique what they told me. I would read whatever agreement I entered as part of the Adwords deal. I would talk it over with some of my friends from a technical perspective. Is there any problem, even slight, with my numbers, or with the technology I am using to count, or with the way I set it up? If so, I would correct the problems and re-evaluate.

After all of that, if I still felt like I am getting ripped off, I would write a letter of complaint to Google. In the letter, I would provide all of the data I can provide them, in detail. If I can send them a file on disk of all of my page views, that would be ideal. I would tell them that I am very concerned that I am being falsely charged. I would ask them to respond, in detail and within 30 days. I would not threaten and would be very polite -- it will get a better response (and looks better if I get no response).

If they blow me off or give me a response I don't believe, then I would talk to a lawyer. Yes, I am a lawyer, but I don't do litigation for a living, so I would be out of my depth. I will tell you that I would not trust a lawyer who would advise me to sue for such a small amount of money. However, I might get a free evaluation of my case. I would take the contract any my communications with Google with me to make sure the lawyer looks at them.

You may find a lawyer who is willing to try a class action against Google. I won't comment on that further. I don't like those kinds of lawyers. Given your views on Google's motivation -- which I have to say you seem to have zero evidence for -- you may find that you do like them. There are lots of them in California, if that is where you live

In any case, if no lawyer takes the case, I can always file a small claims court case on my own. (You probably can, too. You don't have the be a lawyer and the court may provide you a form to fill out.) I would sue simply for breach of contract, so I would set out the basic facts, attach the contract to the claim paperwork, ask for my money back, and say exactly how much money that is. I would avoid saying fraud if I really want to win.

Small claims cases are a royal pain for big companies because it costs them more to defend the case than to pay it off. Nonetheless, most of them do defend them because failing to defend them just invites more cases. I would go in expecting to lose -- they will have a litigator to defend them. But I might get lucky and I will have had my day in court.

When I have my day in court, I would make sure to stay away from technical jargon and overblown rhetoric. The judge in the small claims court may not be the brightest star in the universe and most likely has no clue about internet technologies. So, I would keep it simple. I would tell the judge that this is a simple case of a giant company miscounting what they sold me and refusing to refund me. It is not a grand social crusade. I would testify myself, so that Google has to show up with a witness. If they show up with just a lawyer, and no witness, I would point out that they brought no evidence, so the only evidence before the court is mine. I would remember to provide a calculation of damages (the amount Google owes me). I would remember that the papers I filed to start the case are not evidence, so I need to testify to everything say in them.

After the case, I would remember that many states allow small claims court cases can be appealed for a new trial in a district court. I would have to think about whether I wanted to do this, or threaten to do it. In any case, if Google loses, I would be aware of it.

I would also remember that courts look very poorly on people who refuse to settle and then lose. In particular, I might end up getting stuck with Google's legal fees. So, if they offer a decent settlement, I would take it.

I would also remember that courts can also fine people who file suits that do not have a good basis to them or who misbehave in any way. Since there is so little money at stake in this case, I would remember that the risk of taking action may outweigh the loss.

So, instead of going the legal route, I might just decide to switch from Google to someone else and tell Google why.

Google's front page defaulting to Arabic on Firefox?

I just typed google.com directly in my browser address bar, and it brought up Google's front page in Arabic! I didn't see anything on Google's blog about this. Is anyone else getting the same thing? My default browser is Firefox, and that's the only one that seems to be coming up in Arabic. I refreshed my browser window a couple times and it stayed in Arabic, then I opened a new browser window and went to www.google.com and it finally came up in English. I'm not seeing Arabic come up in Opera or IE. Any clues on what could be happening?

I am helping update a website using Small Business Office Live. The website has been submitted to DMOZ, Google, and many others over the last couple of weeks, but the website itself seems to still be invisible to Google and the other search engines. I am unable to verify my website with Google. When I tried to verify using HTML code, I figured out how to insert HTML code in general, but was unable to upload the HTML file as requested by Google because Small Business Office Live won't let me add a file that contains "special characters" such as periods in the file name, and the HTML file name ended with ".html". I couldn't figure out how to insert the Metatag in the specific location that Google asked for, and simply entering the requested Metatag did not suffice. Do any of you know how to either: (1) Verify a website designed with OfficeLive with Google; or (2) an alternate way to see if a website is visible to Googlebots without first verifying with Google?

at the time i didnt know that google apps was totally not necessary for a website. now i have a page that i would like to use as my website. it has the layout and im totally ready to use it as my site, but when i type in my domain [ayoproductions.com] i go to the google start page that comes with google apps. is there any way to change this, or edit this page with my own coding so that my domain can actually be my site instead of having my site content at some url like ayoproductions.com-a.somethingpages.com?

You have to contact whoever is the registrar for the domain name or contact google apps. You have to have the nameservers changed to where ever it is that is hosting your site. Your webhost might be able to help too so ask them

How do I get a Google Checkout refund for for an order that was never received by the shipping company?

I placed an order with scientificonline using Google Checkout. Well, they never got the order from Google and Google has charged my credit card. The only thing I can find on the Google website about this is that I need to contact the merchant to cancel the order which I tried but since they never received it they can't. That leaves Google thinking all it OK. But it's not! There appears to be no way to contact Google Checkout to explain the problem. I will NEVER USE GOOGLE CHECKOUT AGAIN. I know I am shouting. I hope the entire world here's it. Does anyone know how to contact a real person at google?

Google checkout, per se, doesn't give refunds: it's the responsibility ofthe company from whom you actually bought the goods! Google checkout only gives you bonus points for buying through Google checkout because the seller paid for advertising through Google checkout and Google checkout takes a cut of that advertising before passing on a little bit of the cost of that advertising money on to you. In other words, Google's involvement is the advertising part, not the goods part.

Reply:Google Adsense can be a form of revenue for a website, but setting up 500 Adsense sites from a package is not the way to go.

I suggest that if you are serious about this that you read up about (A) Affiliate marketing, (B) Google Adsense and Adwords and (C) Keyword research. If you are not familiar with building web sites you should also study up on that or find someone who can work with you to do this.

The bottom line though is that this will take some research if you want to do it right,and you will have to be prepared to create websites with some great and original content. There is no lack of information on the web about this, in fact Internet Marketing topics are in abundance. There are many great (and not so great) ebooks out there, as well Google has a wealth of information about Adsense and Keyword research.

Before you apply to Google for your free Adsense account you will need to create a quality web site that has useful information and submit it to Google for approval. Google has fairly high standards as they don't want their advertising programs to be diluted or devalued by thousands of "me too"sites that provide little or no value to searchers. The package you quoted in your letter would likely be seen a junk by Google and even if they were accepted (unlikely) I would be very surprised if you ever made your investment back,let alone a profit.

In fact it's not a question it's a fact, I found out i wasn't the only one to have trouble with my PC after i installet google pack that comes with loads of useless stuff anyway. After that my computer was very slow and laods of error messages started to appear. So i got a different an ti virus software, Avast and i am very happy with it.

Anyway, today i deicided to only downlaod google eart as i love geography..Again big mistake, it screwed up my computer and found out goodle had changed my homepage and had installed spywares.

From now i will not touch google with a barge pole and i advise you people to do the same, especially if you don't know much about computers like i do. Even as a search motor, i will not use google ever again. Never had any trouble with yahoo.

Google window popped up warning that I was setting the defualt search engine to Yahoo.?

I updated my Yahoo toolbar and then clicked OK to confirm to set the default to Yahoo. It was already set to Yahoo, so I didn't bother to click off of it. The strange thing was that after I clicked OK, a Google icon popped up in my taskbar warning me that a program was attempting to change my default search engine. I do not have any Google programs loaded, so why is this message there? I have heard of the concerns of Google's invasion of privacy, so I assume this is another attempt. How can I find and delete all traces off Google?

It sounds like you inadvertently had a Google application installed on your system. Probably by accident more than anything.

It's Google's way of trying to get you to use their homepage. If it were the other way around, you trying to use Google, you'd probably get a Yahoo pop up telling you the same thing.

Just use your add/delete feature in control panel, or do a search and delete from there any Google applications you don't want.

Other than that, it's all fairly harmless stuff.

The obvious and simplest answer is to uninstall it, but if you want to go through the hassle of troubleshooting it, contact google. ;)

At this point I would suggest to keep in mind this is beta software, and there is no official support web site. So don't expect too much from it.

Considering that porn is one of the highest grossing industries online and Google is the largest search engine, the two go together well. Google most likely makes most of its porn income from AdWords.

We have been warned for years about RFID but nothing is going to stop it any more than the other anti-Christian movements that are happening now more than ever. RFID is just moving into mainstream more quietly than the others.

So yes, Google will go where the money is. If you could set your values aside long enough to tap into the single most profitable market online, would you? Strong Christians will turn away, but that just leaves more room for others to capitalize on it.

Try to find my site on Google now...they removed it

Simply search for 'Empire Realty' http://www.empireteam.com/ (it was always on top for that search).

For the last two months I could search for 'Empire Realty' and find my site. Now I can't.

Google was quite adept at searching my site. Google's bot came up with the different search words (keywords) pretty well for two months. We skyrocketed to the top and became the number one or close for our major keywords. Now you cannot find us at all except through other blogs or other engines.

Try doing a search for 'www.empireteam.com' and then do a search for 'www.empireteam.com upland' and you will see that the main page is buried now.

Google has attempted to erase me from the internet by removing my website from their searches. http://www.live.com/ and http://www.ask.com/ and other search engines still have my site listed, but I was high on the list until tonight. Now you cannot find my site at all.

Google blocked my site?
In a Google search for 'Empire Realty' you rank number 7.

Not surprisingly www.empirerealty ranks number one.

Start improving your SEO.

Look at the source code for empirerealty.com and see if you can better them.

Google does not erase sites, just ranks them.

When you use 'yahoo answers'(no single quotation marks) as a search term to run a Google search, the 6th result is Yahoo! answers-wikipedia,the free encyclopedia, whose URL is en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yahoo!_Answers. The snippet is

I'm not sure I understand, but Google doesn't seem to use quotes like it once did. You just need to type in yahoo answers and it will get top listing. I always used quotes and + or - in the past, but in recent years the results have been a very mixed bag.

I have been with Google Adsense since the program was opened to the public in June 2003 and I have been VERY HAPPY with them

Google kicks out publishers if there are invalid clicks generated mostly because the publishers cheat. If the publishers simply think of ways of improving their site and their traffic -- and not focus on cheating the Google system -- then they can get the money they earn

Invalid clicks is a "catch all" term that they use, but it does not always mean that the publisher cheated. It can mean anywhere from clicking on your own ads, labeling the ads, inciting visitors to support the site and click on the ads, etc.

It will not be up to Google to prove to you how they caught what they deemed as fraudulent clicks on your site. They will not show you the IPs of those who clicked. Instead, explain to them in a very professional manner that you never caused invalid clicks and send them your logfiles to help prove your case.

You have to remember that the first responsibility of Google is to satisfy their advertisers, where the money comes from; and not the publishers. They need to protect the interests of advertisers at all cost. As a result, any clicks perceived to be less than above-board are investigated oftentimes leading to the cancellation of the account of the advertiser.

Reply:If you know what you are doing and have a high desired high ranked website you get paid. I am with them for a couple of months and adsense paid enough for all my hosting, domains and then some.

If you know how to get your website in the top place you will make a lot of money. If you have no traffic- no money- so easy:)

The desktop works fine with google....but on the wireless notebook google.com or google earth or trying to ping google.com will NOT work. Is it my router, pc settings, browser settings or anything i can change to make this work.?

Hi there. For these sorts of issues, I generally like to troubleshoot based on the OSI model. This consists of working your way up from the physical medium to the MAC to routing, etc. I will assume you have a NAT behind your router with IP's that look like 192.168.1.x. The wireless NIC in your laptop is probably setup to use DHCP. If using Windows, go to Start-%26gt;Run and type cmd, then Hit Enter. This will bring up a command prompt with a black background. Type "ipconfig /all" to verify what network hardware Windows recognizes. You're looking for wireless, obviously. For the wireless card, you should have an IP that starts off with either 192. or 10. If you don't, you need to start troubleshooting from here. Is the wireless card enabled or disabled? Does Device Manager show the proper drivers for your wifi card? Hold your Windows key down on the keyboard and press the Pause/Break key at the top right of your keyboard to display System Properties, then choose Hardware-%26gt;Device Manager. If you DO have what looks to be a legitimate IP address, can you ping the wired computer? Go to your command prompt and type ping %26lt;ip assigned to wired computer%26gt;. If the ping requests work, try doing an nslookup from the command prompt to verify what IP address google uses. DNS uses a mechanism to convert IP addresses to hostnames. In this case, I performed an nslookup on google.com and received the following output for the IP address:

64.233.167.99, 72.14.207.99, 64.233.187.99

This generally means that google is using three different servers for load balancing, most likely. Now, can you ping any of these IP addresses from your command prompt by typing "ping 64.233.167.99" for instance? If you're successful, you have a DNS issue on your hands. No big deal, really. On your other computer, go to the website that corresponds to your Internet Service Provider. I use Knology for my high speed cable connection so www.knology.com would be what I was looking for. On the website, you're looking for their primary and secondary nameserver addresses, or, you may see it called something similar such as Primary DNS, Secondary DNS. Go ahead and plug those IP addresses into your wifi card's properties section and choose Ok to save changes. You may need to type "ipconfig /release" then "ipconfig /renew" or even reboot your machine. I've seen some pretty finicky Windows boxes. All this changes if you're using another operating system, but since most of the home users are using Windows currently, I'll have to assume.

If you need clarification on the information I've provided, you can either respond here or google the terminology. I like the "define:" operand you can use in the search box for Google.

Reply:I would guess that it is your browser settings. Have you tried going into your internet options and deleting all cookies and temporary internet files and trying again. Also if you have a firewall software or antivirus program installed on the laptop you might try disabling it temporarily and trying to access google.com again, just until you isolate the problem. good luck!

Yesterday I was working and using Google.com all the time. Around 11pm (CT) I try Google for a new search and I couldn't believe that the server was out of service. however, I am still cannot access the Google web site.

Someone is having this problem?

This started yesterday while I was setting up my account at Google AdWords.

I am not getting re-direct for another www or even having pop up screen on my desktop. It's just keep loading loading loading and loading ...

I dont suppose its an issue with any of the updates you did and NOR the issue with google. Its sometimes the way your browser behaves when you have a disconnectivity of network for a brief moment OR if there is an issue with the cache OR if there were some JRE/Java downloads that happened.

Clear your cache with all the browsers closed. Try again.. It works !!

HELP!

Every time I start Google Earth I get this error:

It goes on to say that I should update my graphics card, but my graphics card already has the latest drivers. I don't see what the problem is, it working fine yesterday. I'm on XP.

They have a lot of information, and they may aggregate a bunch of it. They seem to even be a little reluctant to go to far with doing that.

Now, there are some other companies that have quite a lot of information about quite a lot of people. Take, for instance, Doubleclick.

For all the FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) brought up when Google's name is mentioned, they are basically a web search company with some other services they sell and give away for free. They sell a couple hardware products too. And they do some other things.

Their names are hardly a secret and many of them have been around for around a decade. Competition is hardly extinct.

Search engines have mostly taken over the job of keeping track. In a sense, they do the same thing as the old manually maintained directories did. They just do it faster by automating it. Hardly scary stuff. Computers were invented to do drudge work.

When organizations put their infomation together, then it is much more scary.

If you are concerned about information, you should study up on privacy issues and things you can do to protect your privacy. If you are concerned about automation, just think about how dreary the job would be of keeping track of every web page in the world via emails and hand-edited directories!

Just remember, you can keep track of things too!

You can write them down on a piece of paper and put them in your wallet. You can bookmark them. You don't have to save your bookmarks in your browser.

You can save your bookmarks on Yahoo - they have a couple of services to do that: Yahoo Bookmarks and Yahoo My Web 2. There is also the del.icio.us web site. The selection is not imploding. If anything, it is growing, at least in terms of diversity.

Back in the 1990s, there were myriad places you could go to find other places. Over half a decade later, there are still too many such search places to count.

Remember, you can find more searching services out there using Google, Yahoo, or whatever your favorite one is at the moment.

It depends on a number of things -- the topic of the site, the relevance of the ads to the site, and the purpose of the audience in visiting the site. A site that gives tips on finding a mortgage will attract users actively looking for a mortgage provider -- and will most likely click on the ads. That site can enjoy high click through rates. A dating site on the other hand where visitors are looking for dates, are not likely to be interested in the ads and hence CTR can be low.

How often does Google Pay out-- do they send you a check or do they use paypal?

Google does not use Paypal. They either send a check or send your payment via electronic fund transfer. They send their payments about 20-25 days after the end of the month in the US (speed of course depends on your location). You have to check it out. I tested the two, and Google Adsense earned for me 5 times more than Yahoo ads on the same site given the same number of impressions. But your mileage may vary

Any other advice for Google AdSense?

- Follow the TOS and Program Policies VERY CAREFULLY -- they kick out publishers deemed generating "invalid clicks" which is their catch all term for cheating -- from asking users to click on ads to clicking your ads yourself to showing competing contextual ads on the same page as Adsense

- In terms of ad placement, check Google's heat map as they have tested where the best placements are https://www.google.com/support/adsense/b...

- Some types of ads do better than others depending on your content and layout. In our case, large rectangles in the middle of the content is the best, while leaderboards do not generate as much as income. Skys are the worst for us. Experiment and measure the results via channels and see which formats work best for you.

- Smartpricing - the big unknown in Adsense. No one knows how this actually works. But it can affect the pricing of the ads on your site. If the advertiser paid for $0.50/click - but your site is smartpriced - then the cost may be discounted lower (e.g. $0.25). So you may try to develop a site based on high paying keywords but if smartpricing gets to you, then you may not get as much per click as what you are expecting from your keywords.

You need real good orginal content. With the exception of your homepage all I saw were a list of links on each and every other web page.

You need more content... where do you get it? You get it from your own personal knowledge, from what's inside your brain. Write about what you know...

Put it on paper first or type it on a word processor. Don't be afraid to express yourself.

Your website actually has alot of potential it just needs more text type information.

Think about what your visitior might want to know. Why should he click on those links? Whats in it for him?

Hello everyone. I am in a bit of a conundrum that may seem little at first, but it's nearly driven me mad. I have an account for almost everything (meaning Yahoo!, Google, Windows Live, etc...) and I need to know which one (Google/Gmail or Windows Live) is better for me. Please do not post fanboy comments e.g. "Microsoft sucks" or "**bleep**gle is for losers" etc.... I need reasons, facts, and support. (or at least something that's not a dorky fanboy comment). I have Windows Vista Business and I was previously using Google Desktop but I reverted to Windows Sidebar because it is more widely supported and works better for my needs.

Mainly, I need to know if I should use Gmail or Windows live hotmail. This is a bigger decision than it sounds, because if I go with Gmail, I will use services such as google calendar, news, etc. If I use Windows Live hotmail, then I will use Windows live services and Windows programs on vista such as Windows Calendar(how good is windows calendar, really?)

I have been wondering and trying to test this. If you have a website with a Google calendar embedded on it, such as my website http://www.liverystable.net (Events) will the events on the calendar be visible to search engines?

For instance, if someone is searching for a Peter Campbell Horse Training Clinic in Olympia, Washington on March 14, 2008 will the google or yahoo search engines give them my website as a result? I realize my site would probably be listed on the umpteen-millionth page, depending on the popularity of the event searched for. But I have tried to test this, and they don't seem visible. Which, for search engine optimization purposes, our Events listings would draw more traffic to our website if they were not set up on a Google calendar.

Am I correct? Or can you find events on a Google calendar by searching for them through popular search engines such as Google and Yahoo?

I'm sure this question has been asked before... Why do people go through the process of asking questions here when one simple question to google will answer it much more quickly, thoroughly and efficiently??

Is it because people want an easy few points for asking? Do people actually find it hard to search google?? Is it possible that people can't tell good sources from bad when they do google research? I would think you're much more likely to get a sound answer from google, considering some answers I've seen here.

Sometimes we JUST CAN NOT come up with the right string of words that will get us JUST THE EXACT information that we are looking for.

If they're looking for a massage therapist in Seattle, they type "massage" and get 4 million matches. It's not really new news that by installing the Google Toolbar, you give permission for Google to track your every move. However, with privacy advocates taking a closer look at the world's best search engine, it's not surprising that a WebProNews forum user makes this post.

When I browse my site (even into password protected areas) then look at my stats, I notice that Googlebot has "followed me" ! Is this because I have a google toolbar??? How else would googlebot happen to drift exactly where I have just visited? Has any one else experienced this?

Ja think that Google uses this method to follow toolbar users around sites and maybe to index or rank pages???? hmmmmm interesting!

Then your home computer's IP may be rather hidden. Don't get me wrong, I love Google; it's just the apparent overload of buying companies like YouTube that concerns me.

I want your opininion. What do you make of Google's obsessive monopolizing of everything Web 2.0 related? Right now they're huge in AJAX (if you don't believed me, check out Gmail or Google Calendar) and the leader in search technology. Reply:Realize that people were saying the same thing about Yahoo when it was getting started. I used to be a sort of conspirator against Google, buzzwords like "They log all your mail!" were always on my tongue, and the ever growing company seemed too big for its own good.

But I realized that it's alright, their services are really good, and even though everything is directed through them, what can they do with the information? If the government really wants it, they'll get it from Yahoo just as readily as they would get it from Google. Plus, if you don't have anything to hide, why bother? I just see it as a large convenience.

If Google is monopolizing for their gain for some evil purpose, I see a class-action lawsuit coming up. Besides that, just don't do anything illegal that they can trace ;-)

But I have myself a gmail account, and I've seen how, for most of the stuff I'd been paying good money before, Google has a reasonable replacement. I moved four whole websites there (one .org and three .com), each with its own, now, email, blog, forum, start (search-oriented plus news, etc.) page, shared calendars and documents, two with shared spreadsheets for billing. Google adwords helpdesk won't help....can anyone else?

Recently signed up to google adwords for my property website, but I can't get my ad to appear. I'm targeting a very specific conference in Cannes called LIONS so have picked "cannes lions" to be my keywords, yet depsite being within budget, despite there being only 1 or 2 other ads appearing, I cannot get my ad to appear. The campaign is "active" but it just doesn't work. It did briefly work with google network but has never actually worked for google search itself....I appreciate it's all a bit vague but has anyone any ideas as the google email helpdesk refuses to answer my emails.....

A few things came to mind when I saw this question

1. Maybe you weren't one of the top 3 or 4 other bid advertisers for that keyword selection which made the google adwords ad not appear on Google search. But I did the search myself and say only two competitors

If you aren't one of these villa locations, check back your settings to make sure you didn't make a mistake in setting up the account. If no mistakes then you probably need to bid more per click to beat out the other competitors (2......er?).

I saw that only 338 searches for "cannes lions" was made in January 2007. So you do have a small targeted market.

The problem is probably that the market is too small?

Not many people surfing on to search for cannes lions directly and missing your ad.

Try changing up the keywords with more phrases. If you type in cannes alone in Overture it gives a few. But bear in mind that a lot of the combinations given for that is for the "cannes film festival".

It's like Google is spamming us or forcing their stuff down our throats. If I want Google toolbar, I'll go to Google.com and search for it and download it. I've had 2 installs lately where if I had not been paying attention the checkboxes, it would have installed the toolbar. Sorry, I know some people may like this, but I think a big company like Google should have more class than to do something like this. If you Google 'FireFox', the first link is version of FireFox with the Google toolbar bundled in it. If you want it without, you have to scroll down through the search results and find the official FireFox page and download it from there. I wonder how many people got suckered into this Google spoof? Anyway, yes I am venting. Would like to hear your thoughts.

Reply:That's they way business goes. Google pays these companies for this, that's why you see it prepackaged like that. Usually it is quite easy to turn the toolbar off and to uninstall it.

Personally I prefer companies package the Google toolbar instead of some (much more) invasive and annoying spyware or spyware-like applications.

And when it comes for free software projects like Mozilla I'm glad they have another way to support themselves, even if it's like this.

Yesterday I was working and using Google.com all the time. Around 11pm (CT) I try Google for a new search and I couldn't believe that the server was out of service. however, I am still cannot access the Google web site.

Someone is having this problem?

PS: This started while I was setting up my account at Google AdWords.

I had my homepage set to yahoo, but when I click the home button it takes me to the google search. I keep changing it back but it won't stay. I've already changed it back in the internet options and clicked apply, it's not something that I haven't done. My antivirus used to alert me when someone was trying to change my home page, but it doesn't do it with google. How do I get rid of the google homepage ASIDE from changing the internet options every 5 min.? This is a new problem that just started happening. There's another poster with the same problem. Any ideas how and why google is taking over?

You do have a spyware problem.

Download Spybot Search %26amp; Destroy (Free) and run the thorough scan. Delete whatever it finds. It will also give you an option in settings or tools to lock your host file and homepage. Make sure you enable those options.

If this does not work... run a thorough scan using your antivirus software. And finally, if that does not work... try system restore if you are using xp.

I don't have this issue, since I use netscape, but a frined of mine did. She would set her home page, but there was anotehr option she had to reset, becaus it overrode this option. She had a google toolbar,.so the first thing I did was turn off her toolbar by going to the view option.

However it can never replace a doctor's brain for diagnosis. Many diseases have similar symptoms, with only subtle details differing. Even trusted websites such as emedicine.com have disclaimers stating that you should never use it as a diagnostic tool.

Reply:I would personally rather be treated by a physician that does not rely on just Google to try and make a diagnosis of a medical condition that I might have. In the past, whenever I went to a physician and he could not give me an accurate diagnosis, he would refer me to someone who specialized in certain fields. For example, I was referred to an endocrinologist when my family doctor could not bring my diabetes under control and was refer to a physician specializing in internal medicine when pancreatitis could not be properly diagnosed.

I am sure that physicians probably do use the internet to get information about certain conditions and the internet is a good tool to search with, but everything on the internet is not true. The physicians probably have a specific web site instead of just Google in general that they might use to find out this information. In other words.

I hope people do not start thinking they can themselves enter signs and symptoms into the search engine and find their own diagnosis and try to treat a serious condition on their own.
Reply:Google can be used, but I feel it has limited appications. I always say if it was easy to be a doctor, all you have to do to diagnose a disease is to punch it in a computer. Doctors are too dependent on computers as it is. I found the best doctors are the wise ones. The ones that use their experience, rather thatn lab test to help their patients. Disease do not always react like the text book cases. There is also alot of bad information in the internet and many studies that has not been properly reviewed. I have used the internet to help doctors diagnose disease. But I consider every single doctor I did this for was of low quality.

I have downloaded the latest version of google earth 4.2 beta (the version where you can see the sky), but is not running ok.

I can run google earth for a couple of minutes and then an error message pops up. It says:

Any time you install a Beta version you're going to have problems. Beta means the product is in testing and there will be a lot of bugs and errors. Guaranteed. The best you can do is report the error to Google and look through the support forum.

The percentages don't help as much as knowing what the numbers are. To determine what is going on, it would take a complete site analysis, but here is what I can tell you to focus on.

1. Make sure your site has original, quality content. This is what both search engines and people coming to your site are looking for.

2. Make sure you develop quality inbound links to your site. Start by making sure you have done sufficient directory and search engine submissions.

The other question would be; has nothing at all changed with the site except for being listed at Google? It doesn't seem logical that your traffic would drop after being indexed in Google, so something else is likely going on.

Reply:It definitely sounds like osmething is messing with your web browsing. Start at the top of this list. Install the products one at a time. After you install each one, be sure to install all of their updates. Have each one complete a full scan before proceeding to the next one. One of these *should* fix your problem. Work down the list until your problem disappears. Keep in mind that everyone of these things is either free of charge or open source. That also means that the updates are free. Well you do not have to pay anything to use google maps. It is a free service provided by Google, and since you have the unlimited data plan you would be in the clear. The reason why it asks to access your gps capabilities is becuase you have a built in gps chip on you phone and that is what is trying to access. So yes with built in gps locators it is normal for it to show exaclty where you are.

This is totally ok, dont know whether it is written somewhere, but there 1000s of google mashups with google ads.

Google maps api even has a API to run add on the map itself. (different from google adwords banners) It is called gadsmanager, you just have to call this and enable it, and it will display ad marker pins on the map which will display google ads. You can also track this in your Google adsense using channels.

lets say my mom is trying to find a place and i look it up on Google Earth. She drives along that path and accidentally takes the wrong road, so i'm trying to find out specifically where she's at on the Google Earth map so i can tell where she took the wrong turn out or if she is heading in the wrong direction. Is there a way to incorporate her cell phone into Google Earth so i could help her out.

I would add GPS on alltel, but that costs $10 a month, and i was trying to find out a way to do this without having to pay the extra $10.

By the way, i don't know if you know this, but the Google Earth know shows you clouds, the weather, and the temperature, and probably a lot more, thats mainly why i'm trying to find out if it has GPS cell phone capabilities.

I go to google and do a search for info I want. Google comes back with several legitimate links to several legitimate webpages which contain the requested info.

Any link I click on takes me to a bogus search engine, or to another page which is selling something. It is a different page each time, and there is usually one popup which accompanies it.

I know that the links google comes back with are not links to the pages that are opening up, because when I right click and select 'copy shortcut', then paste url into browser, it will take me to the real page.

I went to internet tools/internet options/general tab, and the home page is set to what I set it to ages ago: http://www.google.com .

I emptied temp internet file, cleared history. Ran spybot. Ran hijackthis.exe and removed what I didn't like to see. I ran my updated AV program (AVAST). I did online scan and disinfect at bitdefender website.

Problem still exists. Anyone know what to do?

Well, i have been thinking, lately, is google's quality going worse? I'm not talking about stockmarket value of Google, i'm talking about Whole Google thing. The search engine, Gmail and rest of its services.

-Search engine has a lot of spam results, google's page ranking algorithm really needs a revision.

-Gmail?? It was released almost 3 years ago. However it is still the BETA release and has a lot of problems. Gnotifier often gives errors, gmail locks the browser at least 1 time in every 4 attempts. It has genuine features but a lot of bugs.

-Do too many services and features provided by google make new services jeopartise QoS? (QoS quality of service)

It's a watchdog group that rats on the corruption in government. Read his story on how google suppressed his page ranking when he told the truth. (so much for google's reputation).

Still, I do appreciate google, though strangely, I seem to be getting more relevant search results with yahoo lately.

Google Web Accelerator and Yahoo Websites not loading?

When I have google web accelerater enabled I can connect to any website except yahoo sites. When I turn google web acclerator off, yahoo web sites can now load again. Is this a bug or just my computer? (google web and yahoo worked fine before) I've done a spyware/adware/malware/trojan/virus scan last night and it says I'm clean. I tried to contact google about the problem 3 times so far in a month and still no responces. This problem happens in all web browsers (Internet Explorer 6, Firefox 1.5.0.7, Opera 9, Avant 11)... Assuming I am using averages for all the values I can tell how much I earn from google by the formula:

Earnings = impressions * click through ratio(CTR) * earnings per click (EPC)

Impressions are all me and based on how well my site performs and is not in any way unknown. I can work on improving it and measure every little thing I do.

CTR is something I cannot estimate. It will depend on the website type, I imagine. (imisidro) Your website looks like an information site, so your CTR would be similar to the one I would expect. May I inquire what CTR it might average? Anyone else that has a CTR for a site that would help me?

The earnings per click are 70% of what google makes is this true? Also how can I estimate this number for a given topic. It is easy to tell what it will cost at google adwords to place 1-3 or 4-6 or 7-10 on a given keyword, are any of these good numbers to use as average?

You are forgetting something in your formula = smart pricing.

Smart pricing is the big unknown that can significantly reward or discount your clicks. In the email sent in 2004 by Google when it introduced smart pricing https://adwords.google.com/select/news/s... they explain smart pricing as

"if our data shows that a click is less likely to turn into business results (e.g. online sale, registration, phone call, newsletter sign-up), we may reduce the price you pay for that click ... We take into account many factors such as what keywords or concepts triggered the ad, as well as the type of site on which the ad was served. For example, a click on an ad for digital cameras on a web page about photography tips may be worth less than a click on the same ad appearing next to a review of digital cameras."

So it is not a straightforward estimate - an advertiser paying $0.10 cents for a click from content network (Adsense publishers) does not give you assurance that you get 70 cents (assuming a 70-30 split with Google and publisher). It could be more, or it could be less depending on how smart pricing looks at your site. Webmasters continue to dissect what it is, how it actually works, how often it is applied -- and WebmasterWorld alone has hundreds of threads on this topic.

The other factors are something you can control: ad impressions you can work to increase your traffic; CTR with your ad placement and layout. My site, an information site, is a perfect vehicle for Adsense and we get very good results (double digit CTR, and 5-digit monthly income). [Sorry can't reveal much lest I be in violation of Adsense TOS]

I have created a webiste called www.easy-french-properties.com and have been trying my best to get it listed in google search results in the first position or at least in the first five positions. But it does not seem to be happening.

am trying with the search phrase: "easy french properties"

1. Why am getting good positions in yahoo, altavista, alltheweb search results but not in google!

2. is paying for the sposored adwords google thing might decrease it position in google normal non commercial result?

3. how can a search that is identical to a website name does not come in the first results easily!

Google search results?
The reason you appear in meta search engines and not in the top search engines has to do with visibility, or a lack thereof. Your meta tags and title tags are probably doing just fine if your positioned well in the search engines that use those fields as the defining criteria.

The search engines you should care about are Google (with a 64% marketshare), Yahoo! (with 20%), and MSN (with 10%). Ask has less than a 4% share, followed by the all the rest.

The formula for ranking, simply put, is:

Quality, Traffic-Driving Content + Relevant Inbound Links = High Positioning

Quality Content includes have titles that are more appealing in the search engine results pages, increasing your CTR. It also means having engaging content (like video) to maintain a low bounce rate. Relevant inbound links (IBLs) should come from popular websites on pages that relate to your product or service. Google considers this site a more trusted source. This site has a huge number of backlinks pointing to it - your site has 5 backlinks listed on Google. Google's search algorithm puts more weight on backlinks than the others mentioned.

Paying for adwords will not decrease your serp (search engine result position) in Googles non paid results.

The website name is only one of many factors considered in placing your site in the s.e. results. Backlinks are big with Google and page content and keywords, etc. also play a part.

3)Your search is not identical. If you typed in easy-french-properties your site will come up.

You need to think of terms people will actually use and incorporate these in your website copy and title tag. If you are number one thats great, but not if no one searches for that term.

You might have better luck with "french properties", "Southern French Properties". Use a more specific key phrase and utilize this phrase in your site. Find other sites that are related and see if they will be willing to link to your site using these key phrases. And be patient it may take a while to creep up in the results.

Yes, I have it and it works very good. The google toolbar allows for quick and fast searching. The Firefox browser is real nice if you don't have it already. (tip: use the updater to customize the pack the way you want it).

Google Pack comes with Google Updater. Updater helps ease the user through the downloading and installation, and then, once all programs are installed, minimizes to the system tray. It regularly checks for updates to the Google Pack's programs and notifies the user to install them. It is a mini "Add and Remove Programs" Manager, except that it only manages the programs that are a part of the Google Pack.

If you uninstall the Google Updater all the programs part of the Pack will still be on your system and will not be modified. If you want to uninstall all the Pack programs either uninstall them from the Windows Add and Remove Programs or through the Google Updater Program.

"Fake Google" keeps hijacking my homepage?

My computer seems to be having an issue...

Everytime I start up Internet Explorer, instead of my usual homepage, Google comes up. Only, this isn't actually Google...its an identical website, but when you click on a search result, it redirects you to some other website compeltely unrelated to the search.

This happens any time I go to Google, even when I type "google.com" in myself, rather than going there through the homepage that keeps forcing itself on me.

Is this a known virus? Has anyone ever experienced this "fake google"? How the heck do I get rid of it (spyware and adware detectors aren't picking it up)?

Reply:Dude, it's called Trojans. Your computer has very large amounts of it. It will keep on hijacking your computer whenever you will go on the internet. The best way to do this is taking to a computer know-it-all person and ask for a help to get rid of it. Or you may need a stronger Anti-Spyware software like Norton or McAffee to get rid of that junk. And one last thing, beware of the viruses, worms, TROJANS and hijackers when you look up in the you-know-what websites.
Reply:Chances are that there is a piece of software on your computer acting as a "proxy" it is redirecting all traffic designated for google.com to their website, and returning the results.

First thing is install firefox, firefox is a free web browser that tends to be more secure then Internet Explorer and easier to use.

visit http://www.firefox.com/ and download it and install it onto your computer.

Now we need to remove all the junk probably in your startup. Open the start menu, choose run, type in 'msconfig' without the quotes. A simple little program opens up. goto the startup tab and uncheck all the boxes. reboot your computer. This is disablabling all those things that startup when your computer turns on, which may include this spyware program.

Next once you have tried it out, if you are still having problems, then you need to move to the next level of crap removal. Get your hands on a copy of toolbarcop. this program looks at all addons which have been added to internet explorer and allows you to easily remove them. AdAware SE Setup:

2. Select the "tweak" option. Under "scanning engine," make sure "unload recognized processes and modules during scan" is enabled. Enable "scan registry for all users instead of current users."

IMPORTANT: Files are hidden by Windows for a very good reason. It is not wise to experiment with these files. Unfortunately, to successfully remove modern spyware we must turn this protection off temporarily. Please turn the protection back on when you have finished cleaning your system.

EMPTY INTERNET EXPLORER BROWSER CACHE:

1. On the Internet Explorer Tools menu, click Internet Options.

2. On the General tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files button. Select the Delete all offline content check box in the confirmation dialogue box that appears, click OK. Click OK again.

RESTART IN SAFE MODE:

To do this you need to hold down or repeatedly tap the F8 key while the computer is booting (when the computer is displaying a black screen with white text). When the boot menu appears, use your keyboard arrows to select "Safe Mode."

Safe Mode can look quite ugly. The color may look bad, and all of your desktop icons will be very large. This is normal.

START THE SCAN WITH YOUR ANTI-VIRUS OR ANTI-SPYWARE PROGRAM.

When the scan and removal are completed REBOOT COMPUTER. This will restart you in normal mode. DON'T FORGET TO RESET HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS.

NEW RESTORE POINT.

The RESTORE POINTS may be infected with the Malware and cannot be used.

HERE'S HOW:

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.

2. Click Performance and Maintenance, click System, and then click on the System Restore tab.

3. Select the Turn Off System Restore check box, click Apply, then restart your computer.

4. Return to the System Restore Tab and turn System Restore back on.

TO SET A NEW RESTORE POINT:

1. Click the Start button.

2. Point to Programs, then navigate to Accessories, then System Tools, then click System Restore.

3. Choose Create a restore point, and then click Next.

4. In the Restore point description box, type a name for your restore point, and then click Next.

5. Click OK.

NOTE: If you are using Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) and are unable to access the Internet after removing Malware, there is a command that may fix the problem. It works by resetting the winsock catalogue. Click on Start, then Run and type CMD in the box. Click OK. Type "netsh winsock reset" (no quotes)into the DOS window that appears.

ADDITION INFORMATION ABOUT TROJANS:

There are Trojans that fall into the Smitfraud family. These require the use of a specialized program for removal. Here are two sites that specialize in removing these:

Reply:Make sure your spyware is up-to-date and updated. Have at least two different spyware programs, and then (this is important): disconnect from the internet and run a full scan, one right after the other. Do the same with an anti-virus program or two. Restart your computer after each search.
Reply:One of the first things I do when ever this happens to me, would be check the add remove software in the control panel. Then from there I would remove it from DOS by using the command line interface commands. Or to make it simple, I would do a system restore to an earlyer time after I have checked to ADD REMOVE software in the control panel.

I just made a model in Google Earth and I'd like to share it with the Google Earth community. I was told to check the box 'Google Earth Ready' but I don't see that option. Where is it? Is there any other way to export my model so it can be approved so it can be in Google Earth? Thanks!

I have never seen the box Google earth ready but in Sketch Up you can export your model to the 3D where house. the 3D where house is a place where people put 3D models so other people can see them.

On the other hand, I recently discovered NASA has a similar program called "World Wind" that appears to use the same satellite mapset. i tried updating the latest graphic drivers and also upadted to directx9.

Google SERP for my site? Why is someother site showing on top when I search for my website?

Hi,

I operate a site http://www.shaantrading.com

and my main keyword is "teak outdoor furniture".

The site was doing well until recently I changed the site structure and then I posted a message on

www.bu.edu.

Now what happens is if we search for 'teak outdoor furniture" in google, my site is nowhere but it shows the post on www.bu.edu on number 30. I think the google is considering that posting as most important.

Again,if I search shaantrading.com in google the same post pops up first and my site on number 4!!!!

I tried to delete the post but I couldn't :-(

Now the question is:

a) How can I tell google not to consider the post or simply ignore it.

b) Is it really because of the post that my site is not showing up??

I apprecite any thoughts and advice which I badly need at this moment.

This is because lately Google has been giving more weight to authoritative domains (non-commercial educational sites like bu.edu are especially well regarded). They are doing this to avoid listing duplicate content in the SERPs. For example, if you write an article and publish it in yoursmallwebsite.com and also in bigandimportantwebsite.com, they will list the version of your article hosted in bigandimportantwebsite.com and drop the one in yoursmallwebsite.com. In your case, if I understand correctly, it is not exactly a duplicate content issue, but rather that a comment about your site in a high PR page is ranking higher than your main site. The solution may just be to work a little more in building the inbound link profile of your site and waiting for Google to re-evaluate rankings. In the meantime, the message in bu.edu will give you some citations and some traffic so it's not really a bad thing.
Reply:www.bu.edu is an authority site with pagerank 9. No wonder it outranks you. You must have used the term "teak outdoor furniture" in your post at bu.edu, right? If the post links to your site and is prominent, visitors will still find you. If it would not be there, you would be no.3 and that's it. Now people will either come to you directly (from your #4 spot) or indirectly via bu.edu (if they clicked on the #1 entry and see your post and link at bu.edu).

Your competitor at the #2 and #3 spot are not present at bu.edu, right? I would leave it as is and watch the traffic from bu.edu.

the traffic from bu.edu + the traffic from your #4 spot are probably higher than your previous single spot in the serps. I would check that.

Google vs. Yahoo email?

i have currently both a google and a yahoo email. i first had google but then for a while our security settings wouldnt allow the viewing of my inbox. so then i got yahoo. we have the problem fixed now and plus im about to buy a new computer. i like google in the fact that it is so professional like. but i like yahoo with all of its features. i also like that google has an easy to use calender and that they have the "im feeling lucky" thing with their search bar.

could anyone please tell me which i should choose and why/why not. Thank You EVERYONE for answering or even considering!!!

Google vs. Yahoo email?
Use the email service that is most comfortable for you. I personally prefer Gmail for the following reasons:

- Simple interface that is pleasing to the eye and easy to navigate

- Gmail has only text ads. Yahoo! mail advertisements are too flashy and distracting.

- Gmail is faster. Yahoo sends you to a useless homepage before letting you read your inbox

- Gmail is organized. I could not go without easy to make filters and labels.

- Gmail is integrated with all the other great Google features including Reader, Documents, and Calendar.

The only advantage I see in Yahoo right now is its unlimited storage. But Gmail, with its ~3 GB storage, is more than enough for me!

gmail format i get response emails and sometimes dont' realize they are there (its the bold/not bold thing that confuses me!).

i like google for searching more -- yahoo tends to be more directed for shopping -- the first searches are always like "buy xxxx online now!" which is kind of entertaining if you are searching things like concentration camps and other stuff you can't really buy online but someone is trying to sell you on it.
Reply:Google better known as Gmail is ok but I suggest Yahoo it has more features to try out and you can also use regular or the beta version which ever fits you best. If you choose to go for gmail thats cool too if you have alot of people with Gmail accounts, on the contrary go Yahoo or like me try both Yahoo and Gmail and see which one your more comfortable with.

I have a small business - www.letmepaintyourface.co.uk and I entered the details into Google's local business results and for a while when the map came up I was first every time which was great. This has now slipped and I don't appear on the first 3or 4 which appear on the Google page. I've tried to edit the entry hoping it would be re listed but this doesn't seem to have worked and I'm still off the main Google page only to be found when you click on 'More entries for........'. Does anyone have an idea as to how I can get back on the first page or is that it. I know Google won't give you the time of day (believe me I've tried ) but I'm just wondering if someone has actually done it.
