Google.com not working?

i know other people have had this problem and ive already checked the other "yahoo answers" but it didnt help. Ok i have 2 pc's networked with a linksys router. The desktop works fine with google....but on the wireless notebook google.com or google earth or trying to ping google.com will NOT work. Is it my router, pc settings, browser settings or anything i can change to make this work.?

Google.com not working?
Hi there. For these sorts of issues, I generally like to troubleshoot based on the OSI model. This consists of working your way up from the physical medium to the MAC to routing, etc. I will assume you have a NAT behind your router with IP's that look like 192.168.1.x. The wireless NIC in your laptop is probably setup to use DHCP. If using Windows, go to Start-%26gt;Run and type cmd, then Hit Enter. This will bring up a command prompt with a black background. Type "ipconfig /all" to verify what network hardware Windows recognizes. You're looking for wireless, obviously. For the wireless card, you should have an IP that starts off with either 192. or 10. If you don't, you need to start troubleshooting from here. Is the wireless card enabled or disabled? Does Device Manager show the proper drivers for your wifi card? Hold your Windows key down on the keyboard and press the Pause/Break key at the top right of your keyboard to display System Properties, then choose Hardware-%26gt;Device Manager. If you DO have what looks to be a legitimate IP address, can you ping the wired computer? Go to your command prompt and type ping %26lt;ip assigned to wired computer%26gt;. If the ping requests work, try doing an nslookup from the command prompt to verify what IP address google uses. DNS uses a mechanism to convert IP addresses to hostnames. In this case, I performed an nslookup on google.com and received the following output for the IP address:

64.233.167.99, 72.14.207.99, 64.233.187.99

This generally means that google is using three different servers for load balancing, most likely. Now, can you ping any of these IP addresses from your command prompt by typing "ping 64.233.167.99" for instance? If you're successful, you have a DNS issue on your hands. No big deal, really. On your other computer, go to the website that corresponds to your Internet Service Provider. I use Knology for my high speed cable connection so www.knology.com would be what I was looking for. On the website, you're looking for their primary and secondary nameserver addresses, or, you may see it called something similar such as Primary DNS, Secondary DNS. Go ahead and plug those IP addresses into your wifi card's properties section and choose Ok to save changes. You may need to type "ipconfig /release" then "ipconfig /renew" or even reboot your machine. I've seen some pretty finicky Windows boxes. All this changes if you're using another operating system, but since most of the home users are using Windows currently, I'll have to assume.

If you need clarification on the information I've provided, you can either respond here or google the terminology. I like the "define:" operand you can use in the search box for Google.

Hope this helps,

Reply:I would guess that it is your browser settings. Have you tried going into your internet options and deleting all cookies and temporary internet files and trying again. Also if you have a firewall software or antivirus program installed on the laptop you might try disabling it temporarily and trying to access google.com again, just until you isolate the problem. good luck!

Google out of service?

Yesterday I was working and using Google.com all the time. Around 11pm (CT) I try Google for a new search and I couldn't believe that the server was out of service. however, I am still cannot access the Google web site.

Someone is having this problem?

This started yesterday while I was setting up my account at Google AdWords.

I am not getting re-direct for another www or even having pop up screen on my desktop. It's just keep loading loading loading and loading ...

Also, I have installed PC Tools Firewall and !Avast Anti-virus

Google out of service?
I dont suppose its an issue with any of the updates you did and NOR the issue with google. Its sometimes the way your browser behaves when you have a disconnectivity of network for a brief moment OR if there is an issue with the cache OR if there were some JRE/Java downloads that happened.

Clear your cache with all the browsers closed. Try again.. It works !!
Reply:maybe it wasnt really google. maybe it was a spam site posing as google.
Reply:9:28 central time google workes for me gmail and google maps
Reply:Maybe you just have to update your computer.

Is google next information monster?

Google is becoming one and only one gateway to internet, novice user start surfing from google on other end expreienced user knows how to dig better information using google.

So in my opinion most of internet user knows internet as google shows.

Is google information monster if not now then will it be?

Is google next information monster?
Since the IPO, Google's stock market capitalization has risen greatly and the stock price has more than quadrupled. On August 19, 2004 the number of shares outstanding was 172.85 million while the "free float" was 19.60 million (which makes 89% held by insiders). In January 2005 the shares outstanding was up 100 million to 273.42 million, 53% of that was held by insiders which made the float 127.70 million (up 110 million shares from the first trading day). The two founders are said to hold almost 30% of the outstanding shares. The actual voting power of the insiders is much higher, however, as Google has a dual class stock structure in which each Class B share gets ten votes compared to each Class A share getting one. On June 1, 2005, Google shares gained nearly 4 percent after Credit Suisse First Boston raised its price target on the stock to $350. On the same day, rumors circulated in the financial community that Google would soon be included in the S%26amp;P 500. (Source: Google Shares Rise on New Price Target. L.A.Times. URL accessed on June 1, 2005.) When companies are first listed on the S%26amp;P 500 they typically experience a bump in share price due to the rapid accumulation of the stock within index funds that track the S%26amp;P. On June 7, 2005, Google was valued at nearly $52 billion, making it one of the world's biggest media companies by stock market value.

With Google's increased size comes more competition from large mainstream technology companies. One such example is the rivalry between Microsoft and Google [11]. Microsoft has been touting its MSN Search engine to counter Google's competitive position. Furthermore, the two companies are increasingly offering overlapping services, such as webmail (Gmail vs. Hotmail), search (both online and local desktop searching), and other applications (for example, Microsoft's Virtual Earth competes with Google Earth). Some have even suggested that in addition to an Internet Explorer replacement Google is designing its own Linux based operating system called Google OS to directly compete with Microsoft Windows. Rumors of a Google browser are fueled by the fact that Google is the owner of the domain name "gbrowser.com". This corporate feud is most directly expressed in hiring offers and defections. Many Microsoft employees who worked on Internet Explorer have left to work for Google.
Reply:Seems like Google is not at all the only search engine out there.

They have a lot of information, and they may aggregate a bunch of it. They seem to even be a little reluctant to go to far with doing that.

Now, there are some other companies that have quite a lot of information about quite a lot of people. Take, for instance, Doubleclick.

For all the FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) brought up when Google's name is mentioned, they are basically a web search company with some other services they sell and give away for free. They sell a couple hardware products too. And they do some other things.

Google is far, far, far from a monopoly, however. There are many, many, many web search companies out there. Microsoft, Yahoo, AOL - tons of companies out there have web search engines. Their names are hardly a secret and many of them have been around for around a decade. Competition is hardly extinct.

Web searching systems is a useful commodity too. There have been web search engines out since the mid-1990s. Initially, there was Yahoo, which had a big directory and sought to catalog everything.

That become very labor intensive, however. The Mozilla Open Directory project sought to distribute the labor of keeping a web directory up to date. They did this by using a large number of volunteers.

Eventually, however, there got to be so many sites and pages out there that it was beyond any reasonably economical way to keep an up-to-date list.

Search engines have mostly taken over the job of keeping track. In a sense, they do the same thing as the old manually maintained directories did. They just do it faster by automating it. Hardly scary stuff. Computers were invented to do drudge work.

When organizations put their infomation together, then it is much more scary.

If you are concerned about information, you should study up on privacy issues and things you can do to protect your privacy. If you are concerned about automation, just think about how dreary the job would be of keeping track of every web page in the world via emails and hand-edited directories!

Just remember, you can keep track of things too!

You can write them down on a piece of paper and put them in your wallet. You can bookmark them. You don't have to save your bookmarks in your browser.

You can save your bookmarks on Yahoo - they have a couple of services to do that: Yahoo Bookmarks and Yahoo My Web 2. There is also the del.icio.us web site. The selection is not imploding. If anything, it is growing, at least in terms of diversity.

Back in the 1990s, there were myriad places you could go to find other places. Over half a decade later, there are still too many such search places to count.

Remember, you can find more searching services out there using Google, Yahoo, or whatever your favorite one is at the moment.

I have provided some links. Hope this helps you see how things fit together and makes it all a little less scary to you.

Google AdSense?

What fraction of users that visit a web site with Google AdSense actually click on the ads?

How often does Google Pay out-- do they send you a check or do they use paypal?

Which is better Google AdSense or Yahoo ads?

Any other advice for Google AdSense?

I probably won't make a fortune, but I have a new site going up soon. Thought I might as well try to make a few cents on it.

Thanks for any and all replies... I do check back for answers, so I appreciate you taking the time to read and reply.

Google AdSense?
What fraction of users that visit a web site with Google AdSense actually click on the ads?

It depends on a number of things -- the topic of the site, the relevance of the ads to the site, and the purpose of the audience in visiting the site. A site that gives tips on finding a mortgage will attract users actively looking for a mortgage provider -- and will most likely click on the ads. That site can enjoy high click through rates. A dating site on the other hand where visitors are looking for dates, are not likely to be interested in the ads and hence CTR can be low.

How often does Google Pay out-- do they send you a check or do they use paypal?

Google does not use Paypal. They either send a check or send your payment via electronic fund transfer. They send their payments about 20-25 days after the end of the month in the US (speed of course depends on your location). Read Google Adsense Payments Guide https://www.google.com/adsense/support/b...

Which is better Google AdSense or Yahoo ads?

You have to check it out. I tested the two, and Google Adsense earned for me 5 times more than Yahoo ads on the same site given the same number of impressions. But your mileage may vary

Any other advice for Google AdSense?

- Follow the TOS and Program Policies VERY CAREFULLY -- they kick out publishers deemed generating "invalid clicks" which is their catch all term for cheating -- from asking users to click on ads to clicking your ads yourself to showing competing contextual ads on the same page as Adsense

- In terms of ad placement, check Google's heat map as they have tested where the best placements are https://www.google.com/support/adsense/b...

- Some types of ads do better than others depending on your content and layout. In our case, large rectangles in the middle of the content is the best, while leaderboards do not generate as much as income. Skys are the worst for us. Experiment and measure the results via channels and see which formats work best for you.

- Smartpricing - the big unknown in Adsense. No one knows how this actually works. But it can affect the pricing of the ads on your site. If the advertiser paid for $0.50/click - but your site is smartpriced - then the cost may be discounted lower (e.g. $0.25). So you may try to develop a site based on high paying keywords but if smartpricing gets to you, then you may not get as much per click as what you are expecting from your keywords.

Here is Google's explanation of smart pricing https://adwords.google.com/support/bin/a...

Google's smart pricing feature automatically adjusts the cost of a keyword-targeted content click based on its effectiveness compared to a search click. So if our data shows that a click from a content page is less likely to turn into actionable business results -- such as online sales, registrations, phone calls, or newsletter signups -- we reduce the price you pay for that click.

Experiment with the factors above (except smartpricing, which you can't control), and see which combination works best. Remember though that not all sites do well with Adsense - even if you get gazillions of traffic but your visitors are not interested in looking for ways to spend their money, they won't be interested in your ads and won't click.

Google AdSense?
You need real good orginal content. With the exception of your homepage all I saw were a list of links on each and every other web page.

You need more content... where do you get it? You get it from your own personal knowledge, from what's inside your brain. Write about what you know...

Put it on paper first or type it on a word processor. Don't be afraid to express yourself.

Your website actually has alot of potential it just needs more text type information.

Think about what your visitior might want to know. Why should he click on those links? Whats in it for him?

Google or Microsoft?

Hello everyone. I am in a bit of a conundrum that may seem little at first, but it's nearly driven me mad. I have an account for almost everything (meaning Yahoo!, Google, Windows Live, etc...) and I need to know which one (Google/Gmail or Windows Live) is better for me. Please do not post fanboy comments e.g. "Microsoft sucks" or "**bleep**gle is for losers" etc.... I need reasons, facts, and support. (or at least something that's not a dorky fanboy comment). I have Windows Vista Business and I was previously using Google Desktop but I reverted to Windows Sidebar because it is more widely supported and works better for my needs.

Mainly, I need to know if I should use Gmail or Windows live hotmail. This is a bigger decision than it sounds, because if I go with Gmail, I will use services such as google calendar, news, etc. If I use Windows Live hotmail, then I will use Windows live services and Windows programs on vista such as Windows Calendar(how good is windows calendar, really?)

Google or Microsoft?
Id have to say Microsoft...I havent ever had much luck with anything to do with Google...

Have had good experiences with microsoft, plus they seem smarter and know more about what they are doing....
Reply:use all of them !!
Reply:GOOGLE
Reply:micro soft.
Reply:BOTH!
Reply:well, google, because it is more virtual than Windows Live. Not to mention google give you more options...

your comparasin is like comparing AIM email to hotmail-a total DUH question.

no offense.

Reply:google and microsoft is good you should stay with both because they are reliable than other emails. i say is up to your decision because nobody can make you pick. Its all about you picking what u want. windows live mail has a lot of space as to gmail has a lot of space. i would have both in my opinion but whats your opinion. :D
